Use this simple calculator as a planning aid before comparing your vehicle, trailer, passengers, and cargo against official ratings.

Enter all six values. Use 0 when a cargo field truly has no added weight; blank fields are not treated as zero.

Vehicle max tow rating (lbs) Use the rating for your exact year, trim, drivetrain, axle ratio, and tow package. Trailer dry weight (lbs) Use the trailer's actual or placarded dry/unloaded weight when available. Trailer cargo/fluids (lbs) Include gear, water, propane, batteries, food, and other added weight. Enter 0 only if none. Estimated tongue weight % 12% is a planning estimate. Conventional trailers are often around 10–15%; use your trailer manufacturer's guidance. Vehicle payload rating (lbs) Use the payload value for your specific vehicle, preferably from its door-jamb label. Passengers/cargo in vehicle (lbs) Include driver, passengers, pets, luggage, accessories, and cargo. Enter 0 only if none.
